i’ve been practicing drums to a few tracks from “on being lumpy” lately. we miss you!
I miss everyone up there too man, hopefully sometime in the fall I’ll make it up for a weekend or something. and then one of those days we’ll need to finish those songs we started last year.
it would be cool if when I posted stuff about my music it got liked and reblogged continuously by a bunch of strangers the same way the anime movie poster I posted two weeks ago has been. maybe I should just tag everything with “katsuhiro otomo.”

best albums I heard for the first time this week
Prince - Prince - the first two tracks might be two of the best Prince songs I’ve heard so far. and the rest isn’t too far behind.
Moss Icon - Complete Discography - hadn’t heard of these guys before this reissue and the press it’s been getting. Temporary Residence had a table at a record fair I went to last week though and were selling it for cheap so I grabbed it. still...

best albums I heard for the first time this week
Buildings and Mountains - Summer Gut String - awesome and rough-as-hell experimental stuff from upstate NY. teeters back and forth between abrasive noise and hypnotic grooves. stream it in full or download it on bandcamp, or watch videos for every track on vimeo.
Prince - Controversy - fell a bit behind on my goal to make my way through Prince’s discography this year but I’ve got a...

It’s been about 12 years since ‘The Books’ began, and less than a year since we ended. Now that it’s over it’s time for me to jot down as much as I can about the project, the places it lived, and it’s odd life, before I forget it. As sad as I am that it’s over, it was an amazing thing to be a part…

This is a really interesting article about Tina Fey, Liz Lemon and how women treat other women they don’t deem “good enough.” For example, is feminism “we’re better than that” or is it “all women, no matter what?”
While I respect Tina Fey and love 30 Rock, I gotta say that Rachel Dratch’s treatment has always rubbed me the wrong way. I saw Dratch perform live when we...

sometimes I wish I had a phone with a camera because there’s this new big four foot tall touch screen thing right off the main LIRR concourse in penn station with trip planning things and information stuff about train lines and last night while I was waiting like 45 minutes for a late night train I put it on the trip planning thing where you’re supposed to type in the stations...

best albums I heard for the first time this week
Mount Eerie - Clear Moon - there’s a new Mount Eerie album and surprise, it’s great. not sure how it compares to Wind’s Poem just yet, but regardless, it’s awesome that for as long as Elverum’s been making music he’s been starting to push things even further out in the past few years instead of settling into a sound and just making the same albums over and...

– Pete Swanson, Impose Magazine 5/10/12
ok so I’ve been slowly accumulating movies on my hard drive since I got this computer and I pretty much never watch movies so I haven’t been very efficient at going through and watching them. this is what’s on there that I’ve never seen:
Dead Man
The Maltese Falcon
Nosferatu
Videodrome
Purple Rain
Metropolis
Instrument
Akira
Vampyr
The Terminator
Wild...

oOoOO - Our Loving is Hurting Us - not sure if anything here hits as hard as “Mumbai,” but it’s still great. annoying names and even more annoying witch house hype aside, so far everything this guy’s put out and almost everything Tri Angle Records has put out has been pretty consistently great. good for them I suppose for coming out of nowhere with a fully-formed aesthetic...
